The East Central Community of Practice is pleased to announce its speakers for our Fall gathering in Cincinnati, November 7th and 8th:

Heidi Maibom, Ph.D

Heidi Maibom is a philosopher (PhD University College London) and Distinguished Professor at the University of the Basque Country and Professor of Philosophy at the University of Cincinnati. She writes about empathy, psychopathy, shame, and responsibility from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Her latest book, The Space Between, is about what it is to have a first-person perspective, how it affects our understanding of the world, and how learning to take other perspectives makes us more impartial and objective. She is currently working on a book on how the psychopath provides a lens through which we can understand ourselves and our social and moral impulses.

Dennis Kenny

Dennis will be talking about his newest work, Breaking the Code, towards a standard of practice. This book intends to create a standard of practice for spiritual care. It helps us to know how to start, where to focus, how to respond and how to communicate our spiritual care. It focuses on creating a standard of care rather than accumulating knowledge on conditions or situations that can change from case to case. It focuses on who we are for people more than what we do for them.

Rev. Dr. Kenny was educated at Capital University and Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbus Ohio, where he received his M.Div. He then studied at Andover Newton Theological in Boston receiving both a Masters of Sacred Theology and a D.Min., Cum Laude.

He is a long time ACPE Educator and leader whose contributions were recently recognized at its national conference when he received The Distinguished Service Award. The highest award given by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. You can find out more about Rev. Dr. Kenny and his latest book here.

Additionally, we will hear from Jeff Holman, ACPE Certified Educator, National Faculty, and Certification Committee Commissioner on Success in CE CPE. We will also have limited time for Consultation on the afternoon of the seventh
